Nicely executed, patinated 1854 Minter Factory casting in bronze. High relief copy, good quality, engraved inscription on obverse ZY KACZKOWSKI. Zygmunt Kaczkowski (1825-1896), writer, poet and independence activist, one of the most outstanding prose writers of his time. He lived and worked in two eras. Romanticism and Positivism. At first a poet, later primarily a prose writer and publicist, who published at home and in exile. The most outstanding Polish author of historical novels before Sienkiewicz. He was strongly associated with Malopolska, about which most of his works are treated. Kaczkowski took part in the Cracow uprising in 1846.
