The Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family was founded in 1839 by Isabelle Callewaert. In the beginning, the congregation consisted of five sisters who received and cared for the poor elderly. They mainly took care of the terminally ill, the poor, the elderly and society's outcasts. Together with E.H. Doom, then pastor of St. Martin's parish, the initiative was taken to establish a home for the elderly at Voorstraat in Kortrijk. After five years, 250 elderly people were already being cared for and there were 20 sisters. Together with E.H. Doom, then vicar of St. Martin's parish, the initiative was taken to establish a home for the elderly with two sisters on Voorstraat in Kortrijk. The Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Kortrijk has been active in elderly care and mental health in West Flanders for more than 180 years. It was with great pride that they handed over their work to the current directors, board and management of Groep Zorg H. Familie, which merged into a single non-profit organization on January 1, 2016. Their credo is to seek humanity at the center of care.
