Medal commemorating the centenary of the revolt of the Chilean fleet, Admiral Thomas Cochrane (1775-1860) and Admiral Manuel Blanco Encalada (1790-1876). Obverse: Below, on a circular medallion, two heads of admirals Cochrane (right) and Blanco (left) conjoined, facing (left); above, Fame winged blowing a trumpet (centre) and History seated inscribing a tablet (right). Inscription: (left) 'BLANCO'; (right) 'COCHRANE.' Reverse: A group of frigates, brigs and small boats; rocky coastline (right), below, a tablet inscribed, a laurel spray (left). Legend: 'LA MARINA EN EL CENTENARIO NACIONAL.' (The fleet in the National Centenary.) Inscription: 'SU PRIMER ENSAYO DIO A CHILE EL DOMINIO DEL PACIFICO.' (Its first attempt at acquiring for Chile the command of the Pacific.) Admiral Blanco served as second-in command to Admiral Cochrane in the revolt against Spain and later became President of the Republic of Chile.
