On February 9, 1801, the Peace of Luneville was signed. The Peace of Luneville ended the French Republic's war with the Holy Roman Empire and marked the breakup of the Second Anti-French Coalition. The provisions of the 1797 Peace of Campo Formio were reaffirmed. France took control of the German principalities on the left bank of the Rhine, giving up its claims to territories on the right bank. The borders of the Italian states were confirmed, the Grand Duchy of Tuscany was ceded to France, the Grand Duke's claims were to be compensated by the Emperor in Germany.
