France, Louis XV (1715-1774). Silver medal / jeton 1718, by Jean Le Blanc, Silver 30,0 mm, weight 6,60 g., Condition VF, cast
This token could in no way have been minted at the Monnaie de Paris, and although the style and inspiration are unquestionably French. Technically the engraving is not optimal and for convenience we must attribute it to Nuremberg, even if the style is much better than the standard productions of the German workshop. The I.B. signature for Jean Le Blanc is apocryphal, and the letters in the legend are irregular and hand-engraved rather than stamped. It was probably a private production.
