The Netherlands, Medal 1929, Radio-Telephone links joining the Netherlands with Bandung in Java
- KOD: 4807146RMA
The Netherlands, Medal 1929, commemorates the Radio-Telephone links joining Eindhoven and Kootwijk in the Netherlands with Bandung in Java, by. Dirk Wolbers, Kootwijk-Bandoeng "Radio Netherlands-India", Bronze 59 mm, weight 60,6 g., Condition aUNC, beautiful patina
The emergence of radio must have had an importance for our parents comparable to that of the Internet for us. That's reason enough to dedicate a medal to it. The Hague sculptor Wolbers was still a pupil of the classicist Van Hove, Bronner's predecessor. Against this background, the inclusion of an allegorical nude figure, incidentally beautifully modeled, on the medal is understandable. She extends her arms toward the frequency waves; she could just as well be on the "Beauty in Sports" medal if she were a bit more dressed up. On the reverse, underneath the radio receiver, are precisely inscribed details of the event.
