The Maritime and Colonial League was a mass association whose long-standing activity was interrupted by World War II (1918-1939).
Reactivated in 1944 as the Maritime League, in 1953 it was incorporated into the League of Friends of Soldiers (later the League of National Defense). In 1981, the Maritime League association was established, operating throughout the country. In 1999, the name of the organization was changed to the Maritime and River League. Bronisław Komorowski was its president from 1990 to 2007.
