Poland, PRL (1952-1989), Poznan. Medal 1965, Unveiling of the Monument to Wielkopolska Insurgents 1918-1919 in Poznań, design Jerzy Sobociński, cast Bronze 117 mm, weight 292,90 g., Condition aUNC
Sobocinski`s medals are generally massive, adapted in form to the subject. Also in the case of this artist, as in the case of other sculptors working with medals, one can see a direct link with monumental sculpture. Thickly chiseled silhouettes emerging from a "ragged" background, an escape from detail in favor of compact, stocky masses, unevenly, as if hurriedly cut lettering (this medal is an example). All this contributes to the "roughness" of Sobocinski`s medallic works, which we can also see in his plaques. This style, very much in line with military themes in particular, dominates most of the artist`s medals, and we are familiar with his other works.
