Poland, PRL (1952-1989). Order of the Banner of Labour, 2nd class, an award established by the Act of 2 July 1949 ‘to reward exceptional services rendered to the Nation and the State’, designed by Wojciech Jastrzębowski, Silver-plated metal, enamel 43 mm, Very Good Condition, original ribbon
Order of the Banner of Labour (1949-1992)
Approximately half of the 1st class orders and the vast majority of 2nd class orders were awarded to miners (an entry in the Miner`s Card entitled the holder to a 2nd class order after 20 years of service and a 1st class order after 25 years of service; as late as 1991, 2,500 of these orders were awarded to miners). In the reality of the Polish People`s Republic, receiving this order was the ambition of many people ending their professional careers, especially since it was associated with a pension supplement of 20% of the basic benefit (similar to some other Polish high decorations, commonly known as bread orders).
