Auguste Wahlen (1785–1850), born in Brussels, publisher and author, known for his contribution to Belgian encyclopedic and encyclopedic works of the 19th century. He is best known for his “Nouveau Dictionnaire de la Conversation,” a key cultural work of his time. Author of numerous lithographs.

Auguste Wahlen, a printer from Brussels, commissioned a medal with a bust on the obverse to mark the new edition of the “New Conversation Dictionary.” His main aim was to boost sales. The bronze medals were intended for the salesperson who had secured the most subscriptions. Three silver-plated copies were intended for Belgian and foreign bookstores and for the private individual who placed the most orders. Finally, the gold medal went to the person or bookstore that sold the most books.
